The 3 Ingredients of a Perfect Side Hustle

If you’re looking for a way to make a little extra money on the side of your 9–5, there are thousands of side hustles that will work. Gig economy apps are a great example: Driving for Uber, food delivery (DoorDash or Instacart), dog walking or pet sitting (Rover), and even odd jobs (TaskRabbit).

But the list of lucrative side hustles is much smaller.

If you can find a side hustle with the following three ingredients, you can build it into a full-time business.

  1. Something You’re Good At
  2. Something You Enjoy Doing
  3. Something with High-Income Potential (Scalable)

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Is this something I’m good at?
  • If not, is it something I can learn to be good at?
  • Will I enjoy doing this?
  • Is it something I can learn to enjoy?
  • Is the business scalable?
  • Can I make enough money to replace my day job?

The 3 ingredients are closely connected.

For example, people tend to enjoy doing things they are good at. On the flip side, if you enjoy something, there’s a good chance that you’ll be willing to invest the time to become proficient.
